our home is the one place where you should feel safe and comfortable, and this is especially the case if you\u2019re someone who\u2019s home requires wheelchair access.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In this case study, we\u2019ll examine how we installed a new FRP wheelchair access ramp to help solve one of our client\u2019s home safety and accessibility issues.<\/p>\n
Recently, we were approached by a homeowner requiring assistance with the remediation of a poorly conceived and dangerous wheelchair access ramp.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The current ramp had been built using traditional steel grating and was corroding badly.\u00a0 In addition to the safety hazard presented by the corroding surface, the sharp edges on the steel were causing problems for wheelchair tyres (and the family dog!)<\/p>\n
In short, it was a serious issue that needed fixing as quickly as possible!<\/p>\n
In order to install a wheelchair access ramp that would be as safe and practical as our client needed, we first worked with the owners to clear away all the degrading steelwork, leaving only the posts and handrails.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The support frame for the ramp was then replaced with fully fabricated FRP Profiles that were bolted into place. This provided a perfect base for our FRP Minimesh grating to be laid and fixed down.\u00a0 FRP Minimesh provides a surface with superior slip resistance with the benefit of being easily walked on in bare feet (or paws) \u2013 making it the ideal choice for this application.<\/p>\n
We\u2019re happy to report that our client now has a home that has safe and convenient wheelchair access thanks to the installation of our high-quality FRP wheelchair access ramp.<\/p>\n
The finished ramp complies to all relevant Australian standards and all of the site work was completed in a day.<\/p>\n
